Evensong

common-prayer

Evensong (or Evening Prayer) is sung each Sunday evening at 6.00pm. The service dates back to the first Book of Common Prayer, put together by Thomas Cramner after the Reformation. It draws on the monastic services of Vespers and Compline, and we sing hymns, psalms, the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis; the choir also sing an anthem. Evening Prayer has been part of the worship of St Stephen’s for hundreds of years.
